Class certificates, statutory certificates and hull and protection cover all renew on their own intervals, and the loan requires every one of them to stay in force. The expiry that hurts is the one on a vessel mid-voyage with no yard slot booked, because the finance desk finds out when a port state inspection or an insurer’s renewal notice reaches it rather than when the window opened. If you finance or lease vessels, that is a desk in your own business.
What the work is
An agent holds every certificate and cover note per vessel with its issuer, its interval and its expiry, watches the renewal windows and the survey ranges, and raises the ones falling due against the vessel’s employment so a renewal can be planned around a port call. It shows the certificate it is relying on, not just a status. What it does not do
Whether to accept a short extension from the class society or take the vessel off employment to complete the survey properly, because that choice trades a compliance risk against a charterer relationship. That is not a limitation of the software. It is the line the reference design draws on purpose, and a vendor who offers to move it is selling you something else.
