whereai

Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 21, 2026

1. Overview

whereai is a free macOS desktop application made by ArkOne that analyses your local Claude Code session files to show you token usage, cost breakdowns, and cache efficiency. This policy explains exactly what data whereai reads, what it sends, and what it never touches.

Short version: your data stays on your device. Nothing is collected or stored by ArkOne.

2. What whereai reads locally

whereai reads Claude Code session files (.jsonl format) stored on your Mac in the ~/.claude/projects/ directory. These files are created by the Claude Code CLI and contain:

  • Token counts (input, output, cache tokens)
  • Model names (e.g. claude-opus-4-6)
  • Session timestamps
  • Prompt text from your local coding sessions

This data is read from disk, processed in memory, and displayed to you. It is never uploaded, synced, or transmitted to ArkOne or any third party — except as described below.

3. AI Analysis Feature (Optional)

whereai includes an optional AI Analysis feature. When you activate it, whereai sends a summarised, aggregated usage report to the Anthropic Claude API to generate personalised workflow recommendations. This summary contains:

  • Aggregate statistics (total tokens, session counts, model names)
  • Estimated cost totals
  • Excerpts of your costliest prompts (first 80 characters only, truncated)

It does not send raw session files, full prompt content, file paths, or any personally identifying information.

This feature is <strong>opt-in</strong> — it only runs when you explicitly click &quot;Analyse.&quot; All core analytics work without it. Anthropic's handling of API data is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

4. What we do NOT collect

  • No account registration — whereai has no user accounts
  • No telemetry, analytics SDKs, or crash reporting
  • No location data
  • No advertising tracking
  • No cookies (desktop app, not a website)
  • No payment information

5. Third-party access

The only third party that may receive data is Anthropic, and only when you choose to use the AI Analysis feature. No other data is shared with any third party under any circumstances.

6. Data security

All data processing happens locally on your Mac. whereai does not modify, copy, or transmit your session files. Any API requests made to Anthropic are sent over HTTPS.

7. Children's privacy

whereai is a developer productivity tool intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us at hello@arkone.ai if you have concerns.

8. Your rights

You can stop all data processing by uninstalling whereai. Since no data is stored remotely, there is nothing to request deletion of. For any privacy questions, contact us at the address below.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised date. Continued use of whereai after changes constitutes acceptance.
